TCECEED IN BRIEF

The TETFund Centre of Excellence on Clean Energy and Entrepreneurship Development (TCECEED) was established as one of the twelve TETFUND centres of excellence in polytechnics and colleges of education by the approval of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Honorable Minister of Education. The desire to establish and promote the operation of the TCECEED is tied to an energy crisis in the country. Access to modern energy in the country is below 50% in urban areas and less than 10% in rural areas connected to the national grid. However, there are undoubted facts that the majority of rural areas in the country have no access to the national grid, thereby continuing to live in denial of sustainable socio-economic growth. Consequently, the focus of the Centre’s research and innovative programmes was directed at clean energy research and development in the country. The epileptic power supply in the country today has hindered the socio-economic progression of the nation such that the reality of progressive development is highly constricted. Reliance on power supply from the national grid has become a mirage such that finding alternative solutions is a serious problem. Consequently, research and development in clean energy is an important area to be addressed. Therefore, the goals of the Centre are:

1. Host energy workshops and training programmes.
2. Build capacity to deliver high-quality research involving relevant experts for productive investment in clean energy.

3. Promote innovation predispositions in the clean energy sector in the nation’s renewable energy sector.
4. Engage government stakeholders to advance evidence-based policymaking in clean energy for the stimulation of national economic growth.

PARTNERSHIPS

Partnership with both public and private sector groups is encouraged by the TCECEED mandate. Strategic Partnerships (SPs) in multi-disciplinary approaches bring improved results in research and development (R&D). TCECEED looks forward to an energy partnership in translational joint R&D initiatives and innovations with the potential to promote solutions to mitigate climate change.
